## Summary

Amazon has renamed its Kindle Unlimited subscription to Kindle+ and kept the $12‑a‑month price. The service still offers unlimited reading from an eligible Kindle catalog, but it now expands the audiobook section with more titles, including some narrated by artificial‑intelligence voices.

Authors in the Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) program can use Amazon’s Virtual Voice service, which the company says is free, to generate AI narration for their books. Earnings for Kindle+ authors continue to be based on pages read, not downloads, and depend on the month’s payout rate.

The move could affect professional narrators, as the free AI option may lead some authors to bypass human talent. Amazon argues the feature gives more creators a chance to publish audiobooks, while critics note the potential loss of jobs and a different listening experience compared with human‑narrated titles.

## Key points

- Amazon rebrands Kindle Unlimited to Kindle+ for $12 a month, price unchanged.
- Kindle+ now includes an expanded audiobook catalog with AI‑narrated titles via Virtual Voice.
- Virtual Voice is free for KDP authors, who earn per pages read rather than per download.

## Why it matters

The addition of free AI narration broadens Kindle’s audiobook library, alters revenue for self‑published authors, and raises concerns for professional narrators.
