While partners like Shopify, Walmart, and Best Buy support Muse, Amazon has refused access because outside agents bypass profitable on-site advertisements.\n\nJassy stated that outside agents did not cause Amazon's weaker-than-expected advertising revenue in the third quarter. Instead, he promoted Amazon's own tool, Alexa for shopping, which he said served over 400 million customers in the past year, with customer interactions increasing 570% year over year. Jassy also claimed U.S. customers using Alexa for shopping spend 50% more per order than those who do not.\n\nMeta reported rapid growth for Muse after launching it in early September. Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said last week that over 10 million users in the U.S. and Canada have set up Muse, unseating ChatGPT on the Apple App Store. According to Zuckerberg, shopping is Muse's most common task, with more than a quarter of users shopping through the agent and generating an average purchase size over $200.","keyPoints":["Amazon blocked Meta's Muse agent in September, citing terms of use violations as agents bypass on-site advertisements.","Over 400 million customers used Alexa for shopping last year, with U.S. users spending 50% more per order, Amazon says.","Meta's Muse has over 10 million users across the U.S. and Canada, with average purchases exceeding $200."],"whyItMatters":"Autonomous shopping agents threaten e-commerce ad revenues by automating purchases, prompting platform gatekeepers like Amazon to block third-party bots to protect traffic and promote in-house assistants.","category":{"slug":"agents","name":"Agents & Tools","url":"https://digestai.news/category/agents"},"entities":{"companies":["Amazon","Meta Platforms","Shopify","Walmart","Best Buy","Apple"],"models":["Muse","ChatGPT"],"people":["Andy Jassy","Mark Zuckerberg"]},"firstPublishedAt":"2026-10-30T00:20:02Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-30T00:20:02Z","sourceCount":1,"hasPrimarySource":false,"sources":[{"outlet":"fortune.com","title":"On Amazon's earnings call, Andy Jassy says shopping agents like Meta's Muse are \"still not great, nor more convenient than coming to a retailer directly\"","url":"https://fortune.com/2026/10/29/amazon-ceo-says-shopping-agents-like-metas-muse-not-great","publishedAt":"2026-10-30T00:20:02Z","type":"press","primary":false,"lead":true}],"sourceNotes":null,"discussions":[],"thread":{"title":"Meta Muse Spark Open AI Release","url":"https://digestai.news/thread/apple-benchmarks-muse-spark-open-on-mac-studio-with-mlx-and-rdma","storyCount":8},"cite":{"text":"Digest AI, \"Andy Jassy says outside shopping agents are not yet great or convenient\", 30 October 2026, https://digestai.news/story/andy-jassy-says-outside-shopping-agents-are-not-yet-great-or-convenien","publisher":"Digest AI","title":"Andy Jassy says outside shopping agents are not yet great or convenient","datePublished":"2026-10-30T00:20:02Z","url":"https://digestai.news/story/andy-jassy-says-outside-shopping-agents-are-not-yet-great-or-convenien"},"generatedBy":"Written by Digest AI's editorial model from the linked sources; the sources are the record.","license":"Headlines, digests and key points are written by Digest AI and may be quoted with a link to the story page.
