Nearly 200 bots have already been running autonomously, saving DLA over 300,000 hours of work in 2025. These digital employees are part of a broader shift towards generative AI tools, including versions of ChatGPT and Grok for military use. DLA is training its workforce on these tools through 'GenAI 101' sessions to foster trust and comfort with AI outcomes. The agency is also implementing zero-trust cybersecurity frameworks and persona-based access controls to manage digital agents effectively. This move represents a significant shift in how the agency operates, requiring new management strategies as humans work alongside AI.","keyPoints":["DLA piloting autonomous AI bots called 'digital employees'","Bots have saved DLA over 300,000 hours of work since 2025","Generative AI tools like ChatGPT are being used for military purposes"],"whyItMatters":"This move towards autonomous AI agents is a significant step in the integration of AI into defense operations, potentially revolutionizing logistics and supply chain management.","category":{"slug":"enterprise","name":"Enterprise & Industry","url":"https://digestai.news/category/enterprise"},"entities":{"companies":["Defense Logistics Agency"],"models":["ChatGPT","Grok"],"people":[]},"firstPublishedAt":"2026-09-13T18:35:00Z","updatedAt":"2026-09-13T18:35:00Z","sourceCount":1,"hasPrimarySource":false,"sources":[{"outlet":"govexec.com","title":"‘Digital employees’ are coming to the Defense Logistics Agency","url":"https://govexec.com/technology/2026/09/digital-employees-are-coming-defense-logistics-agency/415963","publishedAt":"2026-09-13T18:35:00Z","type":"press","primary":false,"lead":true}],"sourceNotes":null,"discussions":[],"thread":null,"cite":{"text":"Digest AI, \"DLA Pilots AI Agents as Digital Employees\", 13 September 2026, https://digestai.news/story/dla-pilots-ai-agents-as-digital-employees","publisher":"Digest AI","title":"DLA Pilots AI Agents as Digital Employees","datePublished":"2026-09-13T18:35:00Z","url":"https://digestai.news/story/dla-pilots-ai-agents-as-digital-employees"},"generatedBy":"Written by Digest AI's editorial model from the linked sources; the sources are the record.","license":"Headlines, digests and key points are written by Digest AI and may be quoted with a link to the story page.
