## Summary

Etsy announced it will stop allowing merchants to sell AI‑generated recipes, crochet, sewing patterns and other functional guide digital downloads. The company said sellers must provide at least one unedited photo of a physical item made using the guide and cannot list bot‑generated listings without any human involvement. Etsy will still permit AI‑generated art as long as creators disclose their role and are transparent about the process.

Etsy said the change comes because many buyers cannot tell which items involve AI, making it a top‑three barrier to shopping more often on the platform. The policy aims to protect buyer trust and support sellers who create handmade goods. While tightening rules on functional guides, Etsy continues to use AI internally for shopper profiling, search relevance and has partnered with OpenAI on a ChatGPT app for product discovery.

## Key points

- Etsy will no longer allow sale of AI‑generated recipes, crochet, sewing and other functional guide digital downloads.
- Sellers must include at least one unedited photo of a physical item made from the guide and cannot list bot‑generated items without human input.
- AI‑generated art stays allowed if creators disclose their role and are transparent about the process.

## Why it matters
