## Summary

Amy Waine and Jarrad Cutting, paranormal investigators, developed **GhostTube Seer**, an AI app that interprets phone sensor signals to generate images of the supernatural. The app, which requires a paid subscription, has over **1 million downloads** and uses a phone’s magnetometer and sensor data to feed an image generator. Users post and comment on generated images, often linking them to historical or eerie interpretations of locations.

Critics like **Alex Matsuo**, a paranormal researcher, question the app’s reliance on AI, including ethical concerns about copyrighted training data and potential echo chambers. While some embrace AI tools like **Spirit Phone Innovations** (by Sean Austin), others argue ghost hunting should remain rooted in human experience rather than algorithmic interpretation. The trend reflects broader debates about AI’s role in niche communities and its impact on cultural practices.

## Key points

- GhostTube Seer uses phone sensors to generate AI images of supernatural scenes, with 1M+ downloads
- App requires a paid subscription and interprets sensor data via an unspecified image generator
- Critics question AI’s role in ghost hunting, citing data ethics and loss of human connection

## Why it matters

The app highlights how AI reshapes niche communities by blending technology with folklore, raising questions about authenticity and ethical use of generative models in cultural practices.
