The cell‑level citation appears directly inside the spreadsheet, letting users audit, verify, and cross‑reference AI‑generated data without leaving the sheet.\n\nThe update also includes faster processing, with internal testing showing up to 55 times quicker performance than manual entry on a 500‑cell task, and the ability to handle requests of up to 3,000 cells at once. These changes aim to improve consistency across cells and let users summarize, categorize, and process larger data sets in a single prompt.\n\nThe speed figures come from a 95‑participant internal study that compared manual entry to Fill with Gemini using English prompts for English‑language users. No pricing changes were mentioned, and the feature is available to Google Workspace users on the web.","keyPoints":["Fill with Gemini now shows the web source for each cell’s AI‑generated value","Processing up to 55 times faster than manual entry on 500‑cell tasks, per internal study","Requests can now include up to 3,000 cells in a single prompt"],"whyItMatters":"Cell‑level source attribution and faster bulk processing make AI‑generated spreadsheets more trustworthy and efficient for marketers and small businesses handling large data sets.","category":{"slug":"marketing","name":"Marketing & Small Business","url":"https://digestai.news/category/marketing"},"entities":{"companies":["Google"],"models":[],"people":[]},"firstPublishedAt":"2026-10-28T16:35:13Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-28T16:35:13Z","sourceCount":1,"hasPrimarySource":false,"sources":[{"outlet":"Google Workspace Updates","title":"Fill with Gemini now provides cell-level citations for web sources and supports larger requests","url":"http://workspaceupdates.googleblog.com/2026/10/fill-with-gemini-now-provides-cell-level-citations-for-web-sources-and-supports-larger-requests.html","publishedAt":"2026-10-28T16:35:13Z","type":"press","primary":false,"lead":true}],"sourceNotes":null,"discussions":[],"thread":null,"cite":{"text":"Digest AI, \"Google adds cell-level citations to Fill with Gemini in Sheets\", 28 October 2026, https://digestai.news/story/google-adds-cell-level-citations-to-fill-with-gemini-in-sheets","publisher":"Digest AI","title":"Google adds cell-level citations to Fill with Gemini in Sheets","datePublished":"2026-10-28T16:35:13Z","url":"https://digestai.news/story/google-adds-cell-level-citations-to-fill-with-gemini-in-sheets"},"generatedBy":"Written by Digest AI's editorial model from the linked sources; the sources are the record.","license":"Headlines, digests and key points are written by Digest AI and may be quoted with a link to the story page.
