The change will be communicated by email and applies only to the Plus tier; users will still retain access to the Flash and Flash‑Lite features and their storage benefits.\n\nFree users are affected earlier: on October 9 they will lose the Flash model and be limited to Flash‑Lite. All other paid tiers – AI Pro and Ultra – keep their current Gemini Pro access. The author, who previously enjoyed a roughly 75 % discount on the Plus plan for three months, says the Pro model was the main reason for staying subscribed and is now considering rival services.\n\nGoogle’s update does not alter pricing or other limits, but it tightens model access for the lower subscription levels, potentially prompting users who rely on Gemini Pro for content creation to explore alternatives.","keyPoints":["Free Google AI users lose Flash access on Oct 9, keeping only Flash‑Lite.","Google AI Plus subscribers will lose Gemini Pro model access in October but retain Flash and Flash‑Lite.","All other Google AI subscription tiers remain unchanged."],"whyItMatters":"Losing Gemini Pro reduces the power of Google’s most capable model for many users, likely pushing content creators toward competing AI services.","category":{"slug":"marketing","name":"Marketing & Small Business","url":"https://digestai.news/category/marketing"},"entities":{"companies":["Google"],"models":["Gemini Pro","Flash","Flash-Lite"],"people":[]},"firstPublishedAt":"2026-10-02T22:56:00Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-02T22:56:00Z","sourceCount":1,"hasPrimarySource":false,"sources":[{"outlet":"xda-developers.com","title":"Google AI Plus and free users are losing access to Gemini models, and it's happening very soon","url":"https://xda-developers.com/google-ai-plus-users-are-losing-access-to-geminis-pro-model-and-its-happening-very-soon","publishedAt":"2026-10-02T22:56:00Z","type":"press","primary":false,"lead":true}],"sourceNotes":null,"discussions":[],"thread":null,"cite":{"text":"Digest AI, \"Google AI Plus loses Gemini Pro access in October\", 2 October 2026, https://digestai.news/story/google-ai-plus-loses-gemini-pro-access-in-october","publisher":"Digest AI","title":"Google AI Plus loses Gemini Pro access in October","datePublished":"2026-10-02T22:56:00Z","url":"https://digestai.news/story/google-ai-plus-loses-gemini-pro-access-in-october"},"generatedBy":"Written by Digest AI's editorial model from the linked sources; the sources are the record.","license":"Headlines, digests and key points are written by Digest AI and may be quoted with a link to the story page.
