The apps remain private and accessible only to the creator, who needs only a standard Google account. This change removes the financial and verification hurdle for personal app development but does not alter the need for manual testing and verification on physical devices.\n\nThe new feature is available in select markets, including the U.S., for users aged 18 and older. Users create apps in **Google AI Studio** by describing functionality in Japanese, and the **Antigravity Agent** generates Kotlin-based code. Apps run in a cloud-based emulator before being transferred to a physical device via USB. However, limitations remain: apps cannot use server-dependent features like Firebase, multiplayer, or Google Workspace APIs. The free tier also requires adherence to data privacy rules, as inputs and outputs may be used to improve Google’s services unless a paid Cloud project is linked.","keyPoints":["Google removes $25 developer fee for private Android apps built in AI Studio","Apps run only on the creator’s device and require manual testing on physical hardware","Server-dependent features (Firebase, multiplayer) and paid APIs are unavailable in free tier"],"whyItMatters":"This lowers the barrier for personal Android app development, enabling quick prototyping of device-only tools like checklists or calculators. However, shared or business apps still require paid infrastructure and Google’s review process.","category":{"slug":"marketing","name":"Marketing & Small Business","url":"https://digestai.news/category/marketing"},"entities":{"companies":["Google","Google Play","Google AI Studio"],"models":["Antigravity Agent"],"people":["Sam Bright"]},"firstPublishedAt":"2026-10-16T05:00:00Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-16T05:00:00Z","sourceCount":1,"hasPrimarySource":false,"sources":[{"outlet":"note.com","title":"A Gateway for 'Personal Apps' on Google Play: Install Android Apps Created in AI Studio to Your Device Without Developer Registration","url":"https://note.com/popinsight_ikeda/n/n8b2adae58f11?hl=en","publishedAt":"2026-10-16T05:00:00Z","type":"press","primary":false,"lead":true}],"sourceNotes":null,"discussions":[],"thread":{"title":"Google Opens Android To Personal AI Apps","url":"https://digestai.news/thread/google-play-adds-private-vibe-coded-apps-for-personal-use","storyCount":2},"cite":{"text":"Digest AI, \"Google lets users install AI Studio apps on Android without developer fees\", 16 October 2026, https://digestai.news/story/google-lets-users-install-ai-studio-apps-on-android-without-developer","publisher":"Digest AI","title":"Google lets users install AI Studio apps on Android without developer fees","datePublished":"2026-10-16T05:00:00Z","url":"https://digestai.news/story/google-lets-users-install-ai-studio-apps-on-android-without-developer"},"generatedBy":"Written by Digest AI's editorial model from the linked sources; the sources are the record.","license":"Headlines, digests and key points are written by Digest AI and may be quoted with a link to the story page.
