## Summary

An unannounced SIM Manager connector on a Pixel 9 lets Gemini handle eSIM setup, transfers and restores. The connector appears in Gemini’s app list on a Pixel 9 running Android 17 QPR3 Beta 2 with Google app version 17.70.10.sa.arm64, as reported by Android Authority. Google added it inadvertently as of now.

Gemini can set up a new eSIM profile, convert a physical SIM to eSIM, transfer cellular profiles between devices, restore from a Google Cloud backup, and safely delete active eSIM profiles. It cannot alter billing plans, access carrier call history, or activate an eSIM that is already installed. The feature works only on Pixel 9 at present.

Android Authority tested a prompt and Gemini started the eSIM setup process, proving the connector is functional. The app is not found on OnePlus 13R or Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus, suggesting it is currently limited to Pixels. The Android 17 QPR3 release is scheduled to stabilize in March 2027.

## Key points

- Google added a hidden Gemini SIM Manager connector to Pixel 9 that can set up, transfer, and restore eSIM profiles.
- Gemini can convert a physical SIM to eSIM, transfer profiles, and restore from Google Cloud backup, but cannot change billing plans or activate existing eSIMs.
- The feature is only on Pixel 9 currently and is expected to stabilize in March 2027.

## Why it matters

If Google rolls out Gemini‑driven eSIM management, it could simplify phone switching, reduce carrier friction, and set a precedent for AI‑controlled hardware features, raising questions about privacy and control for users.
