A user named Len Raleigh noticed the button was missing in Incognito Mode but still visible elsewhere. The move appears to be part of an experiment with limited users, though Google has not confirmed it officially yet.\n\nThe decision may reflect concerns over AI Mode’s business impact. Google’s Chief Business Officer, Philipp Schindler, reportedly acknowledged during an investor call that AI Mode’s advertising revenue is underperforming. Additionally, a *New York Times* report found Google’s AI Overviews provide incorrect information about 10% of the time, raising accuracy concerns. The shift could also signal a strategic pivot as chatbots gain popularity and Google risks losing its dominance in search.","keyPoints":["Google is testing removal of AI Mode shortcut from Incognito Mode in Chrome, per user report","Philipp Schindler reportedly said AI Mode’s advertising revenue is underperforming during investor call","*New York Times* found Google’s AI Overviews give wrong answers about 10% of the time"],"whyItMatters":"If Google permanently drops AI Mode from Incognito Mode, it could signal a broader reassessment of AI’s role in search, especially as ad revenue and accuracy concerns mount.","category":{"slug":"marketing","name":"Marketing & Small Business","url":"https://digestai.news/category/marketing"},"entities":{"companies":["Google","Alphabet","*New York Times*"],"models":[],"people":["Len Raleigh","Philipp Schindler"]},"firstPublishedAt":"2026-11-04T02:04:00Z","updatedAt":"2026-11-04T02:04:00Z","sourceCount":1,"hasPrimarySource":false,"sources":[{"outlet":"businesstoday.in","title":"Google tests pulling the plug on AI Mode’s front-row seat in Search","url":"https://businesstoday.in/technology/news/story/google-tests-pulling-the-plug-on-ai-modes-front-row-seat-in-search-565696-2026-11-04","publishedAt":"2026-11-04T02:04:00Z","type":"press","primary":false,"lead":true}],"sourceNotes":null,"discussions":[],"thread":{"title":"Reddit Battles Google AI Mode Traffic","url":"https://digestai.news/thread/reddit-ceo-says-google-ai-mode-does-not-drive-traffic","storyCount":3},"cite":{"text":"Digest AI, \"Google removes AI Mode shortcut from Incognito Mode in test\", 4 November 2026, https://digestai.news/story/google-removes-ai-mode-shortcut-from-incognito-mode-in-test","publisher":"Digest AI","title":"Google removes AI Mode shortcut from Incognito Mode in test","datePublished":"2026-11-04T02:04:00Z","url":"https://digestai.news/story/google-removes-ai-mode-shortcut-from-incognito-mode-in-test"},"generatedBy":"Written by Digest AI's editorial model from the linked sources; the sources are the record.","license":"Headlines, digests and key points are written by Digest AI and may be quoted with a link to the story page.
