## Summary

Tim Bender, chief executive of indie‑game publisher Hooded Horse, warns that generative‑AI sites are crowding out legitimate fan wikis with fabricated game data. He cites a "Nighthawks Wiki" that listed nonexistent companions and mixed unrelated movie and painting references, and a GameDB‑run collection that openly uses AI to mass‑produce pages for titles like Corsair Cove.

The AI‑generated pages not only mislead players but also generate massive crawler traffic. Public data from the Dune: Awakening Community Wiki shows seven million requests in a 30‑day span, with five million coming from Meta’s AI crawlers, driving server costs up three‑ to ten‑fold for small wikis. Independent creators such as FlamingMojo report lost ad revenue, increased hosting expenses, and the need to block or redirect bots to keep sites stable.

Bender argues the low barrier to publishing AI‑filled content lets bad actors flood search results, crowding out volunteer‑run resources and harming the reputation of genuine wikis. The issue reflects a broader AI‑driven information‑pollution problem that threatens the reliability of niche‑community knowledge bases.

## Key points

- AI‑generated wikis for indie games list nonexistent companions and skills, confusing players
- Hooded Horse CEO Tim Bender says generative AI sites flood search results and drain traffic from legitimate wikis
- AI crawlers, especially from Meta, generated 7 million requests in 30 days, raising server costs up to ten‑fold for small wikis

## Why it matters

Misinformation from AI‑generated game wikis erodes player trust, hurts independent communities, and illustrates broader challenges of AI‑driven content flooding online search.
