## Summary

Meta Platforms announced on January 12, 2026 that Dina Powell McCormick will serve as President and Vice Chairman of external affairs, reporting directly to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The role is described as guiding Meta’s overall strategy and overseeing engagement with government partners and sovereign entities to advance the company’s AI and infrastructure plans, especially the “Meta Compute” data‑center effort.

Powell McCormick joins Meta after a brief stint on the company’s board from April to December 2025. Her résumé includes 16 years in senior leadership at Goldman Sachs, a tenure in the Bush administration, and service as deputy national security adviser under Donald Trump, who publicly praised the appointment on Truth Social. Analysts say the hire signals Meta’s intent to increase spending on AI and to secure strategic capital for multi‑billion‑dollar AI investments.
