## Summary

Meta launched its new **Ray-Ban Audio** smart glasses this week, removing cameras to address privacy concerns and reduce weight. The **Clubmaster** and **Burbank** models cost **$349–$429** for frames only, with battery life of up to **12 hours** for general use or **six hours** for constant audio playback. They weigh **43–47 grams**, lighter than previous Meta Ray-Ban models, and rely on **Meta AI** for functions like translation, navigation, and hearing enhancement (an extra **$149** or via subscription).

The glasses lack visual AI features and still require pairing with the **Meta AI app**. Meta’s **Muse Spark AI** powers them, with **agentic AI** arriving in the next year. While the camera-free design may help in places banning camera-equipped glasses, Meta’s broader vision includes display-equipped and neural-band wearables. Competitors like Google and others are also entering the audio-glasses market, raising questions about Meta’s long-term strategy.

## Key points

- Meta’s **Ray-Ban Audio** glasses start at **$349**, priced higher than camera-equipped Meta-branded models at **$249**
- Camera-free design improves battery life to **up to 12 hours** and reduces weight to **43–47 grams**
- Functions include **hearing enhancement ($149 extra)**, translation, and navigation via **Meta AI**

## Why it matters

Camera-free smart glasses could expand adoption in privacy-sensitive areas, but Meta’s AI dependence and lack of visual features limit versatility. Competitors may outpace Meta if its vision for future wearables remains unclear.
