The head of product for Meta’s superintelligence labs, Nat Friedman, says the platform is flexible enough for devices such as an E Ink display, an HDMI dongle, or a small touchscreen accessory that resembles the Muse Charm.\n\nMeta has already built a reference device, the Muse Home Link, a USB‑C powered dongle that connects Muse to a home network and lets it control any HTTPS‑enabled smart‑home equipment. Five thousand of these Home Links are being given away to Muse subscribers, and a Discord community has been created for makers to share projects. CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the Muse Charm a week earlier, positioning it as an alternative to Meta’s smart glasses.\n\nThe initiative aims to spur a broader ecosystem of Muse‑powered gadgets, though Meta has not disclosed any larger hardware roadmap beyond the developer‑focused effort.","keyPoints":["Meta provides open source ESP32 firmware and Linux SDK for Muse agents.","5000 Muse Home Link dongles are being given away to Muse subscribers.","Suggested gadget forms include E Ink display, HDMI dongle, or touchscreen accessory."],"whyItMatters":"Enabling developers to create custom Muse-powered hardware could expand AI agent adoption beyond Meta’s own devices and spur a new ecosystem of smart‑home accessories.","category":{"slug":"hardware","name":"Hardware & Compute","url":"https://digestai.news/category/hardware"},"entities":{"companies":["Meta"],"models":["Muse"],"people":["Nat Friedman","Mark Zuckerberg"]},"firstPublishedAt":"2026-10-02T20:50:01Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-02T21:29:01Z","sourceCount":4,"hasPrimarySource":false,"sources":[{"outlet":"engadget.com","title":"Meta announces Muse Gadgets, providing an open source ESP32 microchip firmware and a Linux SDK to let users bring Muse to their hardware, like Raspberry Pi 5","url":"https://engadget.com/2276312/meta-muse-gadgets-open-source-smart-home-link","publishedAt":"2026-10-02T20:50:01Z","type":"press","primary":false,"lead":true},{"outlet":"Unite.AI","title":"Meta Open-Sources Muse Gadget SDKs for DIY AI Hardware Devices","url":"https://unite.ai/meta-open-sources-muse-gadget-sdks-for-diy-ai-hardware-devices","publishedAt":"2026-10-02T21:29:01Z","type":"press","primary":false,"lead":false},{"outlet":"The Verge AI","title":"Meta open sources code to let you make Muse AI gadgets","url":"https://theverge.com/tech/1004330/meta-muse-ai-gadgets-home-link","publishedAt":"2026-10-02T21:08:37Z","type":"press","primary":false,"lead":false},{"outlet":"madrobot.blog","title":"Meta is giving Muse subscribers a free gadget that lets its AI control your smart home","url":"https://madrobot.blog/2026/10/02/meta-muse-home-link-free-gadget-subscribers-smart-home-diy-gadgets","publishedAt":"2026-10-02T20:41:16Z","type":"press","primary":false,"lead":false}],"sourceNotes":null,"discussions":[{"site":"Reddit","url":"https://www.reddit.com/r/artificial/comments/1ww4mhj/meta_is_giving_muse_subscribers_a_free_gadget/","points":null}],"thread":null,"cite":{"text":"Digest AI, \"Meta releases open source Muse Gadgets platform and gives away 5,000 Home Link dongles\", 2 October 2026, https://digestai.news/story/meta-releases-open-source-muse-gadgets-platform-and-gives-away-5-000-h","publisher":"Digest AI","title":"Meta releases open source Muse Gadgets platform and gives away 5,000 Home Link dongles","datePublished":"2026-10-02T20:50:01Z","url":"https://digestai.news/story/meta-releases-open-source-muse-gadgets-platform-and-gives-away-5-000-h"},"generatedBy":"Written by Digest AI's editorial model from the linked sources; the sources are the record.","license":"Headlines, digests and key points are written by Digest AI and may be quoted with a link to the story page.
