The feature, introduced in 2025, allowed users to chat with AI, ask questions about screen content, or get media recommendations. The move follows Microsoft’s shift to position Copilot as a business tool rather than a consumer companion.\n\nLG faced user backlash last December after an update added an unremovable Copilot shortcut to its TVs. Microsoft did not confirm the discontinuation date but noted it would depend on its internal timeline. The notification did not specify whether existing data or settings would be preserved after the feature’s removal.","keyPoints":["Microsoft will discontinue Copilot support on LG and Samsung smart TVs during 2026, per an on-screen notification","Feature allowed AI chat, screen queries, and media recommendations but was removed from consumer focus in 2026","LG previously faced criticism for an unremovable Copilot shortcut added via a December 2025 webOS update"],"whyItMatters":"The removal affects millions of users relying on Copilot for TV interactions, signaling Microsoft’s pivot away from consumer-facing AI assistants.","category":{"slug":"hardware","name":"Hardware & Compute","url":"https://digestai.news/category/hardware"},"entities":{"companies":["Microsoft","LG","Samsung"],"models":[],"people":["Zac Bowden"]},"firstPublishedAt":"2026-10-28T11:37:00Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-28T11:37:00Z","sourceCount":1,"hasPrimarySource":false,"sources":[{"outlet":"theverge.com","title":"Microsoft is ending Copilot support on smart TVs","url":"https://theverge.com/tech/1021143/microsoft-lg-samsung-copilot-ai-assistant-smart-tvs-ending","publishedAt":"2026-10-28T11:37:00Z","type":"press","primary":false,"lead":true}],"sourceNotes":null,"discussions":[],"thread":null,"cite":{"text":"Digest AI, \"Microsoft ends Copilot support on LG and Samsung smart TVs in 2026\", 28 October 2026, https://digestai.news/story/microsoft-ends-copilot-support-on-lg-and-samsung-smart-tvs-in-2026","publisher":"Digest AI","title":"Microsoft ends Copilot support on LG and Samsung smart TVs in 2026","datePublished":"2026-10-28T11:37:00Z","url":"https://digestai.news/story/microsoft-ends-copilot-support-on-lg-and-samsung-smart-tvs-in-2026"},"generatedBy":"Written by Digest AI's editorial model from the linked sources; the sources are the record.","license":"Headlines, digests and key points are written by Digest AI and may be quoted with a link to the story page.
