## Summary

Microsoft began distributing **Copilot Code**, an AI tool that builds apps, dashboards, and scripts from natural language commands, to companies in its **Frontier early access program** on October 22, 2026. The feature, announced via Microsoft’s Message Center on October 21, lets non-technical users create tools by describing requirements—such as summarizing meeting data or automating Excel tasks—without coding. It integrates with Microsoft 365 data (emails, documents, calendars) and can publish apps to a company cloud or connect to GitHub with admin approval. Usage requires a **paid Microsoft 365 Copilot license** and a company spending policy, with costs billed on a pay-as-you-go model. Microsoft notes the preview version may change and is restricted to select organizations initially, excluding personal use or GitHub access for now. The tool aims to empower non-developers to solve workflow problems but requires admin oversight to manage data access and costs.

## Key points

- Copilot Code lets non-technical users build apps, dashboards, and scripts by describing tasks in plain language
- Requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license and company spending policy; usage costs vary by admin settings
- Currently available only to companies in Microsoft’s Frontier early access program, with limited GitHub integration

## Why it matters

Copilot Code shifts app-building from developers to business users, potentially reducing dependency on IT teams for routine tools. Its integration with Microsoft 365 data could streamline workflows but raises concerns about data security and cost control for admins.
