## Summary

NVIDIA announced DLSS 5 will arrive in its RTX Remix modding tool on October 23, allowing users to apply the controversial AI upscaling to older games. The technology, which alters character lighting and textures, has faced backlash for its perceived distortion of original artistic intent and performance cost—some games see 30–60% FPS drops. NVIDIA also confirmed DLSS 5 will officially support *Hogwarts Legacy* on November 5 and is coming to RTX Spark on October 16, though it remains divisive among gamers due to its computational demands and stylistic changes, such as exaggerated character features ('yassification'). Community tools like DLSS 5 Swapper already let users inject the feature into games, but compatibility issues with anti-cheat software persist. NVIDIA’s latest driver updates have slightly improved performance, reducing FPS penalties in some titles, but the tech remains GPU-intensive, requiring at least an RTX 5070 or AMD RX 9070 for smooth operation.

## Key points

- DLSS 5 arrives in RTX Remix on October 23, letting modders apply it to older games
- Performance drops 25–60% in tested titles; NVIDIA’s updates slightly improved some cases
- Gamers criticize its 'yassification' of characters and anti-cheat software incompatibility

## Why it matters

DLSS 5’s expansion to modding tools could force NVIDIA to defend its AI rendering against preservationists, while its performance hit may limit adoption to high-end PCs. For modders, it offers new creative possibilities—but at the cost of original game fidelity and hardware demands.
