## Summary

**Nvidia’s AI ambassador program in Oregon is on hold** after a year of no progress, according to a report by Capital Chronicle. The company signed a one-year agreement in April 2025 with Oregon Governor Tina Kotek and state education officials to train AI ambassadors on college campuses and integrate AI education into schools. The deal included $10 million in state funding, with $1.5 million earmarked for Nvidia’s ambassador program—none of which has been spent yet, per state officials.**

Nvidia confirmed the program is paused but declined to explain why. Faculty members who applied for the ambassador role received emails stating the program was being restructured. Meanwhile, the bulk of the $10 million—$8.5 million—went to seven Oregon institutions for semiconductor training programs, not AI education. Oregon’s Department of Education said it has no plans to expand AI teaching under the agreement, focusing instead on semiconductor workforce development. Governor Kotek’s office reaffirmed support for the original goals but did not address the ambassador program’s status.

## Key points

- Nvidia’s Oregon AI ambassador program paused after one year with no ambassadors trained
- $1.5M of $10M state funding for AI education remains unspent due to program halt
- Most funds ($8.5M) went to semiconductor training, not AI ambassador roles

## Why it matters

The pause raises questions about Nvidia’s commitment to AI education in Oregon and whether state funds will shift to semiconductor training instead. Delays could limit AI workforce development in the state.
