## Summary

A Reddit user named Brandon Thomas, who goes by **u/ai\[art\]is\[art\]**, released 13 open-source apps this month on his website **ArtCraft**. These tools mimic core features of Adobe and Microsoft programs—including **Photoshop**, **Word**, and **PowerPoint**—without subscription costs. Thomas’s project leverages **vibe coding**, a trend where AI assists in building mobile and desktop apps quickly, though concerns remain about security, long-term stability, and legal risks like copyright violations when sharing modified versions.

The move follows Apple’s 2026 removal of some vibe-coding apps for violating developer rules. While alternatives like **Canva**, **Affinity**, and **CapCut** already compete with Adobe, and Google/Apple offer Microsoft Office equivalents, ArtCraft’s open-source approach appeals to cost-conscious users avoiding major tech companies’ subscriptions. However, professionals and businesses may still prefer Adobe or Microsoft for reliability and privacy guarantees. Adobe settled a **$150 million** US lawsuit in March over subscription traps, while Microsoft continues expanding AI features despite user backlash.
