Opinion: CrowdWorks Academy’s beginner Claude Code course teaches non‑engineers AI file automation

"Claude Code is a hot topic, but I don't know what it can do."

"Is it okay to leave work to AI?"

I felt that way too before taking the course.

However, after learning in the CrowdWorks Academy course and continuing to use Claude Code, I have experienced the following changes.

• Instead of Google search or AI chat, I started asking Claude Code first for things I don't understand or want to look up.
• Instead of thinking "It's too much trouble, so I'll give up" on things I want to do, I started thinking "Let's give it a try."

In this article, I will introduce what I learned in the "Claude Code Course [Beginner]" and the changes in my mindset after taking the course.

I hope this will be helpful for those who want to use Claude Code but are worried because they don't know what to do.

What I felt about AI agents before taking the course

Tools like Claude Code and Codex that allow you to leave computer tasks to AI are called AI agents.

Before taking the course, I felt anxious and uneasy because I couldn't use these AI agents.

I will tell you in order what I felt at that time.

I was interested in Claude Code, but I was anxious because I didn't know what to do

I personally like utilizing new things, so I use AI chat on a daily basis.

As various AIs appeared, I saw the words "Claude Code is amazing" in many places, and I became interested in Claude Code.

However, I was in a state where I didn't know what to do to use Claude Code.

I remember constantly feeling that anxiety.

Because of that anxiety, I decided to try touching AI agents anyway, so I introduced Codex and started using it.

When I tried Codex on my own, it was scary because it could do so many things

I was using Codex on my own.

I chose Codex because I was mainly using ChatGPT at the time, and it was an AI agent from the same OpenAI.

What I felt when I touched it was the amazing potential of an AI agent, thinking, "It seems like it can do all sorts of things."

At the same time, I felt scared that if I gave it permission, it could access files and do all sorts of things.

That's how I felt, and I stopped touching Codex.

What I learned in the 3 weeks of the Claude Code Course [Beginner]

I learned the following 7 things in 3 weeks.

• It can proceed even without a solid prompt
• Using voice input makes giving instructions easier
• You can entrust it with creating, editing, deleting, and moving files
• It can be used with security in mind
• Rules decided during interaction can be turned into skills and carried over
• You can organize rules for each client
• Just get used to it by touching it

I will tell you the specific contents I learned in order.

It can proceed even without a solid prompt

A prompt is the text of instructions given to an AI.

Claude Code doesn't require you to input a well-crafted prompt; it will work if you just tell it what you want to do.

In fact, even with a rough prompt like "I want you to do XX," Claude Code thought about it and executed it.

Also, if you tell it, "Ask me if the instructions are insufficient," Claude Code will ask you questions.

If you are worried about how to write instructions, I learned that it is okay to just say what comes to mind first.

Using voice input makes giving instructions easier

Because it is so easy to input, the course instructs you to use voice input for prompts.

When I actually tried it, I didn't have to think about the sentences, and it was very easy.

Even when giving correction instructions while looking at what Claude Code output, you don't have to go back to the input field and type characters every time.

Claude Code understands even if the prompt isn't perfect, so it worked just by telling it what I thought.

It is very convenient because instructions go through even if you don't correct minor typos.

You can leave file creation, editing, deletion, and moving to it

AI chat answers questions with text.

In addition to that, Claude Code can create, edit, delete, and move files on your computer.

Actually, I tried leaving the organization of my work folder to Claude Code.

I had it create folders by client or by type of work (writing, design, web production) and move files that had been saved in a messy way.

Like this, I think being able to instruct file organization, which AI chat cannot do, is also an amazing thing about AI agents.

You can use it with security in mind

With Claude Code, you specify a work folder and give instructions.

In Week 1 of the course, you learn "safety rules" that take security into account.

The three safety rules that I felt were particularly important are as follows.

• Only let Claude Code touch things inside the work folder
• Do not put important information in the work folder
• Be careful about the Claude Code mode

I also learned about other detailed safety considerations through the course's video materials and the answers provided by mentors (who are active professional workers) to questions from other students.

Since I was able to learn the safety rules to keep in mind when using Claude Code, the fear I felt when using an AI agent for the first time has eased.

Rules decided through interaction can be turned into skills and carried over

Rules decided through interaction with Claude Code can be saved as "skills."

By turning them into skills, you can have the same rules carried over and used in new sessions (conversations).

For example, I turned rules about writing style and Japanese layout into skills.

Since I have registered them as skills, I don't need to explain the rules again every time.

It was more convenient than I imagined, as it follows the rules I decided on.

Rules for each client can be organized

In work, there are rules for each client.

I instructed Claude Code on rules for each client, such as brand colors and expressions to avoid, and organized them into folders.

Once organized, you can have it load the rules and proceed when you start work.

Just touch it and get used to it

It left an impression on me that the instructor, Mr. Go Sasaki, said in the course that he wants us to "use Claude Code on a daily basis no matter what."

Indeed, by touching it every day for course review and assignments, I have come to understand how to use it, even if not perfectly.

If you ask Claude Code about things you want to do or don't understand, it will suggest solutions or provide support.

In my case, when I was preparing to publish a site, security software blocked my work, and I was stuck.

I didn't understand the meaning of the screen displayed at that time, so I took a screenshot and showed it to Claude Code, and I was able to solve the problem.

In this way, I think asking about what you want to do or what you don't understand on the spot and actually trying it out is the shortest way to get used to Claude Code.

What I became able to do through the assignments

The course assignments consist of three items: slides, a note article, and a portfolio site.

Although I stumbled along the way, I worked on creating the three assignments by consulting with Claude Code.

Slide creation

I created a self-introduction presentation for use in business meetings as an assignment.

To determine the direction, I had it ask me questions, and based on that information, it output the slides.

The first draft of the material had a friendly tone, but it didn't fit materials intended for corporate clients, so I had to rewrite the entire thing.

From this experience, I also performed the task of adding the rule 'For corporate materials, use a polite tone from the start' to my skill set.

Also, I adjusted the visual appearance, such as font size and line break positions, by giving instructions.

Note article creation

I also created a note article as a course assignment.

When creating the note article, I gave the instruction to 'just do it appropriately,' but it didn't result in an article I was satisfied with, and I got stuck in a loop of revisions.

As I repeated the revisions, I realized that my procedure for creating articles and Claude Code's procedure were different.

Since I work as a writer myself, I have my own way of writing articles.

When I had it create the article following those steps, it turned out well.

If it's a field outside your expertise, it might be better to start with a rough instruction like 'just do it appropriately' and refine it.

However, I realized that if it's a field where I have some knowledge, it's better to give clear instructions.

Now, I make sure to decide on the purpose and structure of the article first before proceeding with the writing alongside Claude Code.

Portfolio site production

Creating a portfolio site is also one of the assignments.

This time, I also asked Claude Code to create the site.

What surprised me here was that the site created from the first instruction reflected the rules from previous assignments (slides and note articles).

I think Claude Code created the site while reflecting the skills I had established as rules up to that point.

The moment I saw the site completed from my first instruction, I was moved, thinking, "Is this the power of Claude Code?"

The site created for the assignment was published on the internet using a service called Cloudflare.

Even as a non-engineer, I was able to launch a site with Claude Code.

In addition to the assignments, I challenged myself to improve my efficiency

In addition to the assignments, I challenged myself to improve the efficiency of my own work.

Although simple, I will introduce the content I worked on independently.

Creating eye-catching images

I also used Claude Code to create a draft for my note eye-catching images.

If you decide on and save rules for colors and fonts, you can create them with the same taste for each article.

I adjusted the size and placement while checking if the title could be read even when viewed on a smartphone.

Adjustments to fonts and shapes can also be fixed just by saying "make it a little bigger" or "change the color" in words.

Creating a daily report tool

In the course, students post a daily report every day.

The daily report is written in four items: what I did, what I learned, what I will do next, and babubabu (free musings).

When I asked Claude Code to create something like a tool instead of a chat format, it created a tool for daily reports.

The date and the week of the course are entered automatically.

By simply selecting what you did that day from videos, assignments, or other categories and entering it easily, you can create text for a post.

The text created by the tool can be copied using the copy button and posted as is.

Thanks to creating this tool, I have saved the effort of writing daily reports.

My honest impressions of taking the course

To be honest, I am surprised that I can do more things than I thought.

There were times when I stumbled or took a long way around to reach completion.

However, now that I know how to use it, I don't feel like I can go back to ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude chats anymore.

Rather than the anxiety I felt before taking the course, now the excitement of wanting to try more has become greater.

I want to try this and that, and just challenge myself with everything using Claude Code.

What kind of course is the Claude Code Course [Beginner]?

The "Claude Code Course [Beginner]" at CrowdWorks Academy is a 3-week course taught by instructor Go-sensei.

The price is 39,600 yen (tax included) per course, and you also need to subscribe to Claude's Pro plan ($20/month).

This course is especially recommended for the following people.

• Those who are anxious about learning Claude Code on their own
• Those who are interested in Claude Code but don't know where to start

Before taking the course, I myself didn't know what I should do.

The course explains, 'Let's try giving this instruction,' so I was able to proceed without confusion.

You can learn from the very first step, such as the method of brainstorming by conveying your purpose and having the AI ask you questions.

The fact that you can ask a mentor if you don't understand something is also a great feature.

Who this is not recommended for

This course might not be a good fit for the following people.

• Those who are already proficient with Claude Code
• Those who cannot find the time to work on the 3-week assignments
• Those who want to learn full-scale development for engineers

The course is [Beginner Level] and covers the basics of Claude Code, so those who are already proficient may find little new to learn.

In the course, you don't just watch video materials; you also work on assignments using Claude Code.

If you want to learn thoroughly to solidify your knowledge and skills, you also need to ensure you have time to work on the assignments.

Also, since the course content is aimed at non-engineers, those who want to learn full-scale development might find it lacking.

Claude Code is something I want you to try out first

Since I started using Claude Code in the course, I feel like my world has expanded.
