UTMB embeds OpenEvidence AI platform in its electronic health record

The announcement says more than half of UTMB’s clinicians are active users of the tool for clinical decision support, and usage has grown steadily since launch. UTMB operates hospitals on four campuses and more than 100 clinics across Southeast Texas, so the embedded AI capability is available to staff throughout the network. Peter McCaffrey, UTMB’s vice president and chief digital and AI officer, highlighted that removing friction and placing AI where clinicians work drives adoption. OpenEvidence’s chief medical officer, Travis Zack, called the deployment a step toward making evidence‑based AI an everyday clinical capability.

UTMB frames the rollout as part of a broader enterprise AI strategy that emphasizes secure, governed, and workflow‑aligned tools, supported by an AI council and an AI learning hub.
