Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation commits $400 million to AI tools for low‑income schools

The money will support tools such as Kiddom Atlas, a platform that helps teachers identify struggling students quickly, and will target low‑income schools in the United States and abroad. Partnerships have been arranged with major AI players Anthropic, OpenAI, Google.org and Microsoft. Earlier in the year, the foundation granted $55 million to Carnegie Mellon University for AI‑driven courseware development.

Education researchers note that pilots funded by the Gates Foundation often struggle to scale without reliable internet, robust digital infrastructure, teacher training and ongoing technical support.
