Futurum Group CEO Daniel Newman praised Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg for prioritizing safety and security during the development of the company's AI agent, despite pressure.

In a post on X, Newman commended Zuckerberg for not succumbing to investor pressure and "doing the right thing" by focusing on ensuring the safety of the Muse AI agent, even as Meta's Llama models lagged behind competitors.

"Zuck hasn't always gotten it right, but I also respect him for going for it," he wrote.

Newman also lauded Meta's internal focus on responsible development without resorting to potential politicization of the issue, such as involving figures like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

"Oh, and he didn't feel the need to bring Bernie Sanders into the situation. Good for you, Mark," the Futurum Group CEO wrote.

Zuckerberg Backs AI Safety Measures

This comes after Zuckerberg stated that the launch of Muse, Meta's AI agent, was delayed for several months to address safety and security concerns, but he did not ask others to slow down. He emphasized that every lab has the responsibility to ensure the safety of its models, even if it means putting the brakes on progress.

"There is a lot of debate about slowing progress on capabilities until alignment catches up. My view is that … any lab that doesn't focus on alignment will fall behind," Zuckerberg said.

He also called for greater use of independent, diverse evaluators and advisers to test AI systems.

Earlier this year, Meta's CTO, Andrew Bosworth, admitted that their open-source AI software, Llama 4, was a "disappointment" and expressed optimism about the upcoming Muse AI model, which he described as "looking really good."
