Nexus Mods mandates public disclosure of AI use for mod uploads
PC gaming platform Nexus Mods is making AI disclosures mandatory for all new mod uploads, site owner Victor "Foledinho" Folmann announced on Tuesday. Mod creators must state whether AI was used, and those using "AI-assisted" tags must provide a public explanation of how and where the technology was applied. AI tags will also become more prominent on mod pages.
Key points
- Nexus Mods requires mod authors to publicly declare and explain AI use in their uploads
- The platform will not ban AI mods, train AI on uploaded content, or sell mods for AI training
Folmann stated that Nexus Mods is "pro-human creativity" but will not institute an outright ban, citing the difficulty of drawing clear boundaries as AI is used throughout creation processes from autocompletion to asset generation. The platform confirmed it will not use mods to train AI or sell them to third parties for training.
Additional updates include controls for users to hide AI-generated content on game pages and the homepage, with search controls planned next.
